Jasone CENOZ, Universidad del Pais Vasco

Jasone Cenoz is Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago and Professor of Research Methods in Education at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and member of the Advisory Board for the Organization of Ibero-American States (Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos). Her research focuses on multilingual education, bilingualism and multilingualism. She has published extensively and has presented her work at conferences and seminars in the US, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Brunei, New Zealand, Singapore and most European countries. She has been AILA publications coordinator and President of the International Association of Multilingualism.

Jean-Louis CHISS, Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle

J.L. Chiss is professor emeritus in language sciences and didactics of French at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. He has published in recent years La culture du langage and Les idéologies linguistiques (Lambert-Lucas, 2018) and Idéologies linguistiques, politiques et didactiques des langues (Lambert-Lucas, 2022). He edited the collective volume Le FLE et la francophonie dans le monde (Armand Colin, 2021).

Jim CUMMINS, University of Toronto

Dr. Jim Cummins is a Professor Emeritus at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto. His research focuses on language and literacy development in educational contexts characterized by linguistic diversity and has been influential in developing policies and instructional practices to promote effective education for multilingual children. His most recent book is entitled Rethinking the Education of Multilingual Learners: A Critical Analysis of Theoretical Concepts (Multilingual Matters, 2021).

Fred GENESSEE, McGill University

Fred Genesee is Professor Emeritus in the Psychology Department at McGill University, Montreal. He has conducted extensive research on alternative forms of bilingual/ immersion education for language minority and language majority students, the academic development of at-risk students in bilingual programs. language acquisition in typically-developing and at-risk pre-school bilingual children, and internationally-adopted children. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals, professional books and magazines and is the author of 16 books on bilingualism. He is the recipient of the Canadian Psychology Association Gold Medal Award, Paul Pimsler Award for Research in Foreign Language Education, Canadian Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to Community or Public Service, California Association for Bilingual Education Award for Promoting Bilingualism and the le prix Adrien-Pinard.

Ingrid GOGOLIN, Universität Hambourg

Ingrid Gogolin, is Senior Professor for International Comparative and Intercultural Education Research and Director of the Research Center “Literacy in Diversity Settings LiDS” at Universität Hamburg in Germany. Her research is focused on migration and linguistic diversity in education. Research projects deal with topics as Linguistic diversity management in urban areas (Research Cluster of Excellence at the Universität Hamburg); Support of migrant children in schools; Multilingualism and Education. Ingrid Gogolin was awarded honorary doctor’s degrees by the University of Dortmund/ Germany in 2013 and the National Kapodistrian University of Athens/ Greece in 2017.

Nancy HORNBERGER, University of Pennsylvania

Nancy H. Hornberger, Professor Emerita of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, is an educational linguist and anthropologist researching and collaborating in multilingual education policy and practice in immigrant, refugee and Indigenous communities. Prolific author and editor, she recently published an annotated bibliography on Educational Linguistics in the Oxford Bibliographies in Linguistics; she is former editor of the Encyclopedia of Language and Education (Springer) and longstandingco-editor of Multilingual Matters’ Bilingual Education and Bilingualism book series.  Internationally recognized for her work, she has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Umeå University, Sweden and elected to membership in the National Academy of Education, USA.

Wei LI, University College London

Professor Li Wei is Director and Dean of the Institute of Education at University College London, where he also holds a Chair in Applied Linguistics. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, Academia Europaea and the Academy of Social Sciences, UK. He is Editor of the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism and Applied Linguistics Review. His award-winning publications include Translanguaging: Language, Bilingualism and Education (2014, with Ofelia Garcia), and Cambridge Handbook of Linguistic Multi-Competence (2016, with Vivian Cook).

Jeff MACSWAN, University of Maryland

Jeff MacSwan is Professor of Applied Linguistics and Language Education at the University of Maryland. He is also Professor of Neuroscience and Cognitive Science, and co-directs the Multilingual Research Center.  MacSwan’s research program focuses on the linguistic study of bilingualism and codeswitching (or language alternation), and its implications for theories about the role of language in educational settings for multilingual students. He is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and of the National Education Policy Center. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from AERA's Bilingual Education Research SIG and the Leadership through Scholarship Award from AERA's Second Language Research SIG, both in 2021. Recent edited books include Codeswitching in the Classroom: Critical Perspectives on Teaching, Learning, Policy, and Ideology (Routledge, 2020, with Christian J. Faltis), and Multilingual Perspectives on Translanguaging (Multilingual Matters, 2022).

Nathalie AUGER, University Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3

Nathalie Auger is a professor in language sciences at the University Paul-Valéry, Montpellier 3. She is the director of the LHUMAIN Research Unit (Language, Humanities, Learning, Media-tions, Learning, Interactions, Digital), sponsored by Edgar Morin. She works on language teaching/learning at school, in particular French as a second language, in France (Gypsylang), in Europe (Conbat+, Maledive, Romtels, Sirius, Listiac) and in Canada (FLS- interculturel-littérature de jeunesse, Binogi-Escape). She is an expert for the Conseil Supérieur des Langues of the French Ministry of Education, the Council of Europe and the European Commission. She is the author of a dozen books and various websites dedicated to the projects she develops.

Jean-Paul BRONCKART, University of Geneva

Jean-Paul Bronckart (born in Belgium in 1946) is an honorary professor at the University of Geneva. After having been, from 1969 to 1976, Hermine Sinclair's assistant in the psycholinguistic unit and Jean Piaget's collaborator at the Centre International d'Épistémologie Génétique, he held a position as a full professor in language didactics from 1976 to 2012. In this context, he created courses and conducted research on discourse analysis, language didactics, language acquisition and the role of language proficiency in the development of individuals. Founder of the international network of Social Discourse Interactionism, he is the author of more than 500 scientific publications in German, English, Basque, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. He is the author or co-author of 15 books published in various languages, including Genèse et organisation des formes verbales chez l'enfant (Brussels, Dessart & Mardaga, 1976); The language sciences. Marisa CAVALLI, Regional Institute of Educational Research for the Valle d'Aosta

Marisa Cavalli is a researcher at the former Regional Institute for Educational Research (IRRE) for the Valle d'Aosta and a consultant for the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe. She has participated in projects, actions and the drafting of some texts of the Language Policy Division/Unit of the Council of Europe.

 

 

Daniel COSTE, Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon

Daniel Coste has spent most of his academic career in the field of didactics of French as a foreign language and language policies at the ENS de Saint-Cloud (now ENS de Lyon) where he directed the CREDIF (Centre de recherche et d'étude pour la diffusion du français) and the research team "Plurilinguisme et apprentissages". He has been involved for many years in the work of the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe and was a member of the group of co-authors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. He is a member and former president of the ADEB (Association for the Development of Bilingual/Plurilingual Education). He is the author or co-author of books and articles on language didactics, language education policy, and the history of language teaching.

Sabine EHRHART, University of Luxembourg

Sabine Ehrhart is a professor of ethnolinguistics at the University of Luxembourg. She teaches in training programs for primary and nursery school teachers, particularly in the areas of intercultural awareness. She is one of the founding members of the Master in Border Studies which brings together three countries and several disciplines: https://wwwfr.uni.lu/formations/fhse/master_in_border_studies. For more than ten years she lived in the South Pacific where she studied Tayo and Palmerston English, two creole languages that arose from the meeting of linguistic communities of very different origins. The speakers of these languages were able to build bridges and create a common base of understanding without formal learning in an institutional context. This fact has inspired the researcher in her observations on contact languages - recently with the Garifuna community in Honduras -, and she tries to link the results of this research to language didactics.

 

 

Laurent GAJO, University of Geneva

Laurent Gajo is a full professor in the field of French as a foreign language at the University of Geneva. A linguist by training, he has specialized in the analysis of interaction in bilingual classrooms, the didactics of plurilingualism, language policy and plurilingualism in science. He is a member of several educational policy commissions and is also president of the ADEB (Association for the Development of Bilingual Education) and of the "FrancophonieS" network. Between 2007 and 2013, he was a member of the Scientific Council of the AUF (Agence universitaire de la Francophonie). Between 2016 and 2020, he also participated in the work of the "Languages and Science" group of the European Language Council. He has conducted numerous expert appraisals, notably in Central Europe, Morocco and Southeast Asia.

Georges Daniel VERONIQUE, University of Aix-Marseille

Georges Daniel Véronique is Professor Emeritus at the University of Aix-Marseille since 2016. From 1994 to 2005, he was professor of linguistics and didactics at Paris III. From 2005 to 2016, he taught French linguistics, creole studies and didactics of French as a foreign language at the University of Aix-Marseille. His research interests include languages in contact, foreign language acquisition, French creoles and the didactics of French as a foreign language.

G.D. Véronique is president of the International Committee for Creole Studies (ICCS) and of the Association for the Promotion and Dissemination of Creole Studies (APRODEC) since 2012.
